IRON HORSE is a strategic layout designed by Dick Phelps over 160 acres in North Richland Hills, TX. The course, which opened in 1991, is one of the top rated, public championship golf courses in Texas.
Beautiful, scenic and impeccably maintained, the course traverses through a solid
hardwood forest, over meandering creeks and under a railroad trestle.
The course gets its name from the railroad that cuts through the property. The clubhouse looks like an old train depot, and you'll find three cabooses on the course that serve as restrooms or a snackbar.
While only 6,580 from the tips, the yardage is deceiving. Both par 5s normally require three shots. There are 8 par 4s that measure over 400 yards, including the #1 handicap hole, #3 (462 yds).
Many believe that IRON HORSE would be an excellent qualifying site for a USGA event. In 2000, IRON HORSE was rated #2 Municipal Golf Course in the State
of Texas by the Dallas Morning News. IRON HORSE was rated Best Value in DFW by avidgolfer magazine in
November 2001.
