comments: if , on your backswing, your shoulders are perpendicular to the target line, should you start the downswing dropping your hands before you rotate your shouders around your spine and then tr should i start rotating my shoulders when i swift my weight back to the left ? or should i start my hands and then shift my weight to the left. please help!!!!!!

Kim Brown:
Obviously, you are attempting to swing with too many technical thoughts. However, understanding the appropriate sequence is obtainable.......accomplishing it with that conscious thought process may be quite another. What I would suggest is to focus on what the trunk of your body does - it should fully coil and then uncoil . Practice without a club and just allow your arms to swing freely wherever the trunk of your body tells them to go. Coil to the right side, uncoil to the left and keep repeating that. Eventually pick up a club and try to feel the trunk of the body dictating the pace and the sequence of movements . Make your goal to swing to the appropriate finish position, and forget thinking of all that other "stuff".

comments: I've read some of your other user's questions about hitting balls into adjacent fairways. My question is if I'm hitting off the tee on hole #7 and it hooks and lands into the middle of the fairway of adjacent hole #17, is that a penalty? Or do I chase it and try to hit it back into the fairway of hole #7 without incurring a penalty stroke? The rules book does not have a clear ruling on this matter.

Kim Brown:
No penalty. Play the ball where it lies. Just use common sense in terms of looking to see if players playing #17 are going to hit you or not!

comments: I am a 8 handicap Recently I have started topping the ball with my driver and only hitting the ball about 5 inches off the tee on the fly. I have a new Great Big Bertha and the problem started right after I bought it. Please give me some tips on what to do. I'll be an 18 handicap if I don't fix this soon.

Kim Brown:
Get your old driver out. Try alternating hitting one with th e old one, one with the new one, etc.

comments: I am a 5 handicap, and have a good grasp of golf fundamentals. I am tall and would like to shorten my backswing to improve my accuracy and ball trajectory (ball flight too high)... I often get myself into the right "slot" at the top in front of a mirror but cannot take it to the range with any consistancy. Thanks.

Kim Brown:
It IS difficult to manufacture a position. If you can't "swing" to that position, then forget it if you need to play well during the next 4 months.

comments: As far as know, most of the players on the PGA-tour uses the steel-shafted clubs instaed of graphite. Why is that?

Kim Brown:
They generate a lot of clubhead speed so the added advantage of increased clubhead speed is not attractive to them as much as it would be to you. They tend to prefer the "heavier" feel of steel shafts

comments: My handicap is around an 8 or 9 but I am a really poor putter. Can you give me some tips to help improve in this area. Thank You

Kim Brown:
Practice putting while you look at the hole to improve putterhead acceleration.

comments: I shoot in the 80s and hit the ball solid. I tend to pick the ball off of the turf without taking a divot. When I try to hit down on the ball I hit behind it quite often. How can I hit down and take a divot consistently like the pros and other good golfers.

Kim Brown:
That type of angle of attack is the result of a good shoulder turn, getting the weight back on the trail foot, and then generating the clubhead speed by a gradual 'undwinding" of the torso allowing the hands to trail. Sort of the "delayed release" you have read about.

comments: First, Thank's for the tips on beginners tendancy's to hit all irons about the same distance; BIG HELP! So now Please help me fix my slice with my woods only. Thank's

Kim Brown:
Turn your shoulders more on the backswing. Make sure your shoulders are not "open" at address. Think about pinching your elbows together at contact.

comments: I play all of my shots right-to-left; however, as a round progresses, I find that my swing tends to flatten out. This results in a loss of accuracy. How can I avoid this flattening out of my swing plane? I have tried to be more conscious of my shoulder rotation, but this is a difficult swing thought to focus on...I would prefer to simply trust my swing and only think of keeping my head still.

Kim Brown:
I would recommend tending to focus on swinging to a good finish position and not dwelling on your swing plane on the backswing.

comments: What books are best to purchase for the mental game of golf?

Kim Brown:
Not sure on that one. Contact Chuck Cook at Barton Creek in Austin though. I attended a seminar with him and he had the best golf psychologist in the business helping him.. I am drawing a blank on the name. (It helped my golf, not my memory!)

comments: I am writing an essay for school about what golfers have to do to get on the PGA tour. Any information will be greatly appreciated.I would like information on the tough obstacles that they have to go through like the costs that they have to pay, other tours, how some become teachers, and what other information. Thanks, Korey
